Miyamoto Musashi, the greatest samurai who ever lived, wrote this:

> Whatever attitude you are in, do not be conscious of making the attitude – think only of cutting.

My interpretation? Concentrate the mind at the task at hand. Do not be drawn off course, hesitate, or procrastinate, but focus the mind on the present moment and achieve the objective as swiftly and cleanly as possible.

Like Miyamoto, I want to think only of cutting, not be distracted by my attitude.

I want to focus my energy on creating art, building relationships, and bringing new things into the world. Distraction, procrastination, and hesitation are all symptoms of an unfocused mind.

These are symptoms of forgetting who I am. I am the only person with the ability to restore my focus. To restore my focus and balance throughout the day, I meditate on my personal philosophy.

86,400

Every day has 86,400 seconds. That’s the time we all have to spend on what we’re most passionate about. Every night, the unused time or time spent procrastinating or lost through hesitation is swept away into the night. Every morning, the clock resets.

When I procrastinate, get distracted, or lose focus, I’m drawn off course. My energy leaks out onto the floor, but the clock keeps ticking. 86,400 reminds me to focus on whatever brings me the greatest joy. To get there?

Like Miyamoto, I think only of cutting. How can I accomplish the task at hand as swiftly and cleanly as possible and move onto what fills me with joy?
